Been a hell of a year...

It's been too long since I had a blog entry, I've been busy wrapping up my next to last semester at Wilmington University.  Well there are only a few days left on the old calendar for the year.  It's been an interesting year with a lot of ups and downs.  I find it kind of ironic that I was watching “It's a Wonderful Life” on Christmas Eve, and it got to the bank scene where Potter is telling George Bailey, “If you close your doors before 6 P.M., you will never reopen.”

That's just how I feel right now.  Just a small amount of cash in my hand and the clock is at 5:30.

Hottest Girls of Delaware at Kooma, round 2

Well not exactly round 2, but the last one went well and Paul Pruitt decided to have the last public show there again.  Had a great time, plus I get to had some salmon rolls and miso soup again.

Was pretty much a repeat of last time, so on to the photos!

Trying to keep busy.  Last week at had a meeting with the WilmU photo club.  Apparently they are now responsible for most of the photography now.  So I decided to lend them a hand.  I'm on my way to Goldey-Beacom College tonight to shoot the volleyball teams' away game.

My sister also called me yesterday, apparently my nieces are going to give modeling a try, this should be fun.

Cheers!

shooting in the rain...

Sports photography...my passion in photography.   I don't get to do it as much as I used to.  At one time, I figured I would be one of those guys who "just shot sports".  I was good enough at one time, the phiadelphia wings gave me a press pass, the only pure freelancer to get one.  One of these days I'll get around to posting some of my wings shots, it's all on film and in storage.

In the past 4 years, I haven't been able to shoot as much college sports at Wilmington.  Up until may I had a day job and basically was only on campus during class time.  One in a blue moon I would be able to catch a basketball or volleyball game.  Lacrosse and Soccer are played off campus and was usually played when I was working.  I made it a goal this year to make it out to Kirkwood and shoot some games.

Sweating the small stuff...

A few weeks ago I was at a networking event and I met a local custom jeweler who fell in love with my work.  He eventually wants me to shoot his next line of rings.  In fact, it was this photo that sold him on my work...

Hottest Girls of Delaware; Kooma

Greetings again, it's been a while but I figured I would post my recent work. This is pretty much the "how I spent my summer vacation" assignment you would always get sometime during the first week of grade school.

Since about May I've been helping out my friend and fellow photographer Paul Pruitt and his "Hottest Girls of Delaware" calender search. You can find out more by going to the website www.hottestgirlsofdelaware.com. There have been 4 different events so far, the last one was a Kooma Restaurant and Bar in Wilmington. Btw, if you have never had Sushi or any Japanese cuisine, I highly recommend you go there. I decided to have dinner there before the shoot and the food was amazing.

As which most of these events they are in very dark clubs bars. I shoot with a Canon 30D and I've notice it has a major problem focusing when in low light situations. Many times thought the night I had to switch to manual focusing because the camera's AF couldn't lock on or just completely miss the subject completely. I didn't notice how bad it was until I got my Sigma 28-70 f/2.8 lens in June. At first I thought I had a major backfocusing problem, but the lens is sharp in daylight. There was another photographer from Spark magazine, who shoots with a 5D(the full frame version). I asked if he was having the same problems, he said no. I'm starting to think my next major photography purchase will be a new body. I've seen great shot come out of the 5D markII, plus it shoot HD video, something I eventually want to play with.

Well anyway that's what I've been doing. My senior year is of college is starting in 2 weeks. I still need a senior project. The high school football team I wanted to follow didn't seem to big on it. Recently I've seen a lot of blog posts from fellow photographer about doing charity projects and that's something that has caught my interest. If anyone knows of anything, feel free to drop me a line.

Greetings...

Hello peoples,

Welcome to version 2 of my website blog, soon to be known as Dominichanna.com

This blog is going to a little insight into the photos I shoot personally and professionally.

My first project I'll be talking about mainly in my senior project for my bachelor's degree at Wilmington University. I plan to follow around a local high school football team, and put on a little photo documentary or what I see.

in the meantime, check out my Flickr and Twitter feeds(to be posted shotly). Critics and comments are always welcome.
